March 4, 2008 - Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Utah Jazz are members of the Northwest Division of the Western Conference in the NBA. The Utah Jazz was founded in 1974 in New Orleans (known then as the New Orleans Jazz) until they moved to their current location in Utah in 1979 and became known as the Utah Jazz.

The Utah Jazz were one of the most successful teams in the NBA during the late 80's into the early 90's. While they have yet to win a championship, this team is sure to get places in this season. They have won two Conference titles (1997 and 1998) and seven Division titles (1984, 1989, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2007).

The Early Years

March 4, 2008 - The team got its start in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1974. They had one of the NBA's most entertaining players, Pete Maravich, on the team, and although he was talented the team was not successful in New Orleans. Five short years later, the team was moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where they became the Utah Jazz. Although the name doesn't really fit with the history of Utah, the franchise kept the name Jazz. It is an irony that Utah has the Jazz, and New Orleans has the Saints (referring to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which was founded in Utah).
